Hebrew School

Around the turn of the century, the children received their Hebrew instruction from Rabbi Wichefsky. The cheder took place at Dan Rothschild's house. In an interview with his son Sam Rothschild, he recalled learning Hebrew from the Rabbi in his family’s kitchen, along with his friends Charlie and Ellis Weisman, while his mother served Rabbi Wichefsky tea with rock sugar.

In 1920, the community established a Talmud Torah, which was held in the synagogue. The classes were taught by the rabbi. The students were divided into three levels and classes were held after school from Monday to Thursdays as well as on Sundays. The hours and curriculum were included in the synagogue's constitution in 1921. Rabbi Wichefsky passed away in 1922 and he was succeeded by Rabbi Clement, who also took on the role of teacher rather than religious leader for many years.
