Military Service

A memorial plaque placed by Hadassah in the Beth Israel Synagogue lists the names of the Jewish men from Peterborough who served in the military. Two died while serving. Sgt-Instructor Samuel Rogow, son of Benjamin and Mary Rogow, was killed in a plane accident near Trois Rivières, Québec, three months after earning his wings as a flying instructor.

The Peterborough Hadassah chapter donated a scholarship in Cantor’s memory to the Hebrew University. Coleman Florence also joined the Canadian Air Force but was discharged due to ill health and died soon after his discharge.
