Population
In the early years of the 20th century, the population of Niagara Falls grew slowly, thanks to emigrants from Russia and Poland. Following the First World War, difficult economic times in Poland and the Revolution in Russia prompted a second group of immigrants to seek a better life in Canada. A few came to Niagara Falls, bringing its population to a total of 27 in 1920.
In the period just before the Second World War, between 1931 and 1940, 18 more Jews came to Niagara Falls. Among them were several families fortunate enough to have escaped Austria and Hungary in advance of the Nazis. Only three Jews came to Niagara Falls between 1941 and 1945. After this, the population once again began to grow, slowly, to reach a total of 93 by the mid-1950s.
