B'nai Brith

One of Cornwall's most active Jewish service organizations was its B'nai Brith, founded by Archie Dover in 1934. Among its many activities, this group organized concerts, helped send Jewish children to summer camp and visited senior's homes. During the Second World War, they supported servicemen overseas and provided entertainment for recruits at the Army Training Base on Marlborough Street. Cornwall's B'nai Brith group also supported the organization's Anti-Defamation League and Hillel. In addition, they were part of the Cornwall Service Clubs Council and contributed to non-Jewish causes such as the Canadian Cancer Society. Their Annual "Halloween Party for Retarded Children" took place at Beth El Hall and was an important Cornwall event. In addition to all the good works they were involved with, B'nai Brith also provided opportunities for recreation, through dances and card-playing evenings.
